From June 5 – 9, 2018, the world’s leading ICT trade show Computex took place. For many years, NFIA Taiwan and BOM Foreign Investments have visited Computex to talk to the management of current investors in the Netherlands and Brabant and to target new prospects that have an interest in investing in the European market.
This year’s edition was special since the Mayor of Eindhoven, John Jorritsma, guided 17 Dutch startups from Eindhoven to Taiwan to attend the 3rd InnoVEX start-up exhibition that is part of the Computex Exhibition. InnoVEX offers a platform specifically for tech startups to network with global buyers, investors, and manufacturers to accelerate the commercialization process, while also providing effective matchmaking for capital and manufacturing capabilities.
Eindhoven is known as the ‘Silicon Valley of Europe’. There are currently more than 200 Taiwanese companies located in the Netherlands, from which 70 are located in the greater Eindhoven region. Companies like Gigabyte, MSI, BenQ, Delta Electronics, Lite-On, Advantech and Cooler Master all set up their European branches in Eindhoven. This location became an important base for their European expansion. Additionally, Eindhoven has a high density when it comes to high-tech ecosystems, which provides great opportunities to multiple stages of the company’s growth cycle, enabling local Taiwanese companies to benefit as well.
This year, the Eindhoven based Sorama actively participated in this trade mission. They have signed an agreement with the Department of Transportation Taipei in Taiwan to develop cameras that make sound and vibrations visible in order to reduce disturbance. In a Memorandum of Understanding, the Department of Transportation Taipei and Sorama agreed on testing the sound cameras on a busy intersection where a lot of accidents happen for a year.
We have already made an analysis. We know on which intersection the cameras need to be installed. During an entire year we are going to run all sorts of tests in all kinds of weather circumstances and then we will see where the improvements will lead to the best results.
Rick Scholte - CEO Sorama
BOM Foreign Investments (BOM) and the Netherlands Foreign Investments Agency (NFIA) spoke to more than 100 Taiwanese high-tech companies during Computex. In addition, NFIA and BOM organised company visits for the Mayor of Eindhoven to BenQ, MSi, Gigabybte, Cooler Master, Delta Electronics, Advantech and Lite-On Technology.
This intensive week in Taiwan gave us a good impression of the interests, expectations and needs of Taiwanese companies to and in the European market. We will continue to offers these companies our services and help them to solve their challenges and successfully expand in the European market.
