XPO Logistics opens four new distribution centers in the Netherlands
XPO Logistics will open four new distribution centers in the Netherlands next year. This has been announced by the American transport company that has nearly 100,000 employees worldwide.
In an explanation, their spokesperson said that there will be two new distribution centers in the Eindhoven region, one in the Nijmegen region and one in the Amsterdam region. Three new distribution centers will open in the first half of 2021 and one in the second half of the year.
With the construction of the four new centers and the investment of millions, the logistics company is responding to the strong growth of the parcel industry and online orders by consumers.
New employees
XPO Logistics says it wants to hire more than 3,500 employees in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The vast majority of these vacancies will be filled in the Netherlands, said a spokesman. In view of the crowds around Christmas, XPO Logistics will recruit 25,000 employees worldwide in the fourth quarter.
The group expects to process about 3.7 million parcels in the Netherlands in its busiest week. This is almost 60% more than in an average week in 2020.
Many companies are forced to switch to e-commerce activities because of the corona measures. The fashion sector has already taken this step and XPO sees that companies in sectors such as toys, sports, DIY and furniture are also accelerating their e-commerce activities. “This not only leads to a 25% volume increase with existing customers, but also to a significant increase in new customers.”
Christmas peak
The construction of new distribution centers and ‘smarter’ forms of automation are elements of XPO’s growth strategy, which has its European headquarters in Lyon, France. XPO expects to process more than 120 million e-commerce products in the Netherlands this year, 25% more than last year.
XPO now has more than five thousand employees and 19 distribution centers in the Netherlands, in Venlo, Tilburg, Oosterhout, Mijdrecht, Eindhoven and Schiphol, among others.
High-tech companies, fashion groups and companies in the food industry and construction sector are important customers of XPO Logistics. The American company grew strongly between 2012 and 2015 through a large number of acquisitions.
